Backyard Bluejays

– Taken by Allison H, edited by Madeline H; Livingston, NJ

Sometimes when you take a walk in your backyard, you’ll be awarded the presence of a blue jay. They’re common and lovely to look at, but their populations have declined by an estimated 0.6% per year for a cumulative decline of about 27% between 1966 and 2019 (North American Breeding Bird Survey).

Next time you see one of these pretty blue birds, take a picture and send it our way!
